An emergency meeting of the party central committee expressed deep sorrow over the death of Pahadi and decided to lower the party flag in his respect.
The meeting was held at the NC Central Office, Sanepa in Lalitpur under the chair of party President Sushil Koirala. [break]
The party said that it was shocked at the demise of Pahadi who had a longstanding contribution to the democratic movements in the country.
With the demise of Pahadi, the nation has lost a leading democratic fighter who was always committed to nationality, democracy and socialism.
The 68-year-old unmarried leader Pahadi had a life of political dedication towards democratic socialism, the party said.
Leader Pahadi who was inspired by ideologies and principles of BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, Subarna Shumsher, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Girija Prasad Koirala was a leading political personality, said party spokesperson Dilendra Badu after the meeting.
Party flag in the central office and all the district offices will be lowered from August 19 -21 and all the formal programmes except for the mourning ones have been halted till that date, he said, and informed that the condolence meeting will be held on August 31, the 13th day death ritual of Pahadi.
Meanwhile, party President Koirala draped Pahadi´s body with the party flag. Pahadi´s body has been kept at the party central office for paying last respects to him. Party senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, general secretaries Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, leaders, cadres, well wishers and commoners were there to pay their last tributes to the late leader.
Pahadi, who was long suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney problem passed away this morning while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Medical College, Sinamangal at 7:00 am today.
PAHADI: AT A GLANCE
Leader Pahadi was the NC central member from 2056 BS till his death. He served jail sentence from 2029 BS to 2036 BS for his involvement in the movement launched for restoration of democracy in the country.
He was taken to police custody time and again during his five-decade long political career. He was the member of Democratic Socialist Youth League that was formed in 2024 BS under the leadership of party leader Shailaja Acharya. Pahadi served as party district president in Sankhuwasabha from 2033 BS to 2053 BS.
He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in 2048 BS and 2056 BS and represented the NC in the first Constituent Assembly. Born in 2002 BS, he had received B.A and B. Ed degrees.
