KATHMANDU, Aug. 4: Nepali Congress (NC) Whip Nishcal Rai has urged the government to conduct an impartial investigation into the Sunsari incident and make the findings public. He also called for a permanent all-party, interfaith and civil dialogue mechanism under the prime minister's leadership.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Rai said the mechanism should include representatives from religious communities, local governments, civil society, women, youths and security agencies to address emerging social and religious tensions.

Demanding a detailed report on the Sunsari incident, Rai sought clarification on its causes, security lapses, the role of misinformation and the government's response. He also called for action against those spreading hatred and false information through social media, while cautioning against targeting any religion or community collectively.
Rai urged the government to ensure transparency and accountability, saying sensitive issues should be addressed through open national dialogue. He also questioned the 13-point agreement reached between the government and the protesting side, seeking clarity on its constitutional basis, implementation process and timeline.
"Unity cannot be maintained by suppressing disagreement. Only open, honest and respectful discussions can build trust, and only trust can provide a sustainable solution," he said.
