KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Nepali Congress has begun interaction with mayors and deputy mayors elected on the party ticket about taxes levied by the local government and other issues.
Mayors’ Conference ends with 6-pt declaration
At a program organized by the NC Central Policy and Training Academy at the party central office today, mayor and deputy mayors winning the elections from the NC have gathered to discuss the matter with party senior leaders and experts concerned.
The main opposition decided to sit with the local representatives for talks in the first phase in the aftermath of growing public concerns over taxation at the local level. The local governments have been accused of imposing taxes haphazardly.
A total of 189 mayors and deputy mayors are taking part in the event.
The first session will see the presentation about local level's economic policy and development plans by National Planning Commission former vice chair Dr Shankar Sharma while in the second session Nepal Bar Association president Sher Bahadur KC will present his views about duties and responsibilities of municipalities.
Former secretary Krishna Gyawali will brief on judicial and legal issues in the third session. According to party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, in every session, party leaders and experts from other areas will give their supplementary remarks. RSS
