KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) is planning to stage a protest at the Judicial Council today. The NBA has been demanding the cancellation of the first amendment to the Judicial Council regulations. However, after a meeting of the Judicial Council was called for 1 PM today, the NBA decided to protest at the Council.
More than 50 judicial positions, including four in the Supreme Court, are currently vacant across the country. Although the current ruling coalition has initiated the process of appointing judges, the NBA has been advocating against making recommendations under the existing regulations.

The NBA has been demanding the repeal of the first amendment to the regulations, stating that it violates the constitution.
NBA President Gopal Krishna Ghimire has requested that the process of appointing judges not proceed based on the amendment to the regulations. He argued that it is contrary to Article 141 (3) of the Nepali Constitution.
