KATHMANDU, Sept 18: National Education Day is being celebrated with various programs today. The day is being observed with the slogan, "Knowledge, Science, Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Originality: Partnership and Systemic Competence."


The government began celebrating National Education Day on Ashoj 2 (September 18 this year) starting last year, based on the date of the certification of the "Compulsory and Free Education Act, 2075," which was enacted to implement the fundamental rights outlined in the constitution.


Special programs are being organized through the National Education Day main ceremony committee under the chairmanship of Education, Science, and Technology Minister Bidya Bhattarai.


On the occasion of National Education Day, the Ministry of Education will be announcing this year's Nepal Bidya Bhushan Honour of 'a', 'b', and 'c' categories including Nepal Prabidhi Bidya Bhushan, Nepal Chatra Bidya Padak of 'a' and 'b' categories, as well as student awards.

The Education Ministry has stated that applications were invited for these awards, and the names of the recipients have already been selected from among the applicants.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need to integrate marginalized groups, regions, genders, and castes into the mainstream of education and ensure equal access to quality education.


He mentioned that it is essential to eliminate inequalities at all levels and opportunities of education at the provincial and local levels, ensuring equal opportunities and benefits for everyone.


Extending his best wishes on the occasion of "National Education Day 2081 BS," Prime Minister Oli stated that the government is committed to increasing the budget allocation for the education sector, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and passing the School Education Bill 2081 BS through discussions.


In his message of best wishes, Prime Minister Oli mentioned that achieving the goals of compulsory and free basic education and free secondary education requires increasing investment through mutual coordination, cooperation, and coexistence among all levels of government.


The Prime Minister has said, "It is necessary to effectively and creatively utilize existing investments and resources to build a society of quality education, employment, and ethical conduct."


According to the Prime Minister, to achieve the global Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, it is essential to make education inclusive and of high quality, from basic and technical education to higher education. This includes developing all educational institutions into centers of excellence and making education a means to fulfill the national aspiration of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalis.


The Prime Minister clarified that the government is making special efforts to conduct additional classes nationwide in key subjects with talented subject teachers, aiming to ensure that at least 70 percent of students pass the upcoming Grade 10 Secondary Education Examination (SEE).
