Explaining the situation, health officer at the DHO Birsh Bahadur Sahi informed that their storehouse is located outside the district and poor accessibility has compounded the problem of transporting the medicines to where they are needed. [break]
"Lack of sufficient budget and delay in transport have always been the two major problems for us," said Sahi.
Even recent stores of medicine at the DHO were transported by minitruck and it took around a week, informed Sahi.
"The last lot of medicines was airlifted here and it cost us a fortune. The weather conditions are also unpredictable around here and so air transport is not always possible," said Sahi.
Meanwhile, Sahi assured that the required medicines would reach the area health posts and health offices of the district within a week.
"If the government doesn´t waste time in allocating the budget for medicines and releasing tenders for the distribution, no health institution in the villages would lack medical supplies," said Sahi.
Sahi added that lack of proper medical instruments and adequate workforce have been the other setbacks.
The government has allocated 130 medical doctor and assistants to the district hospital and currently 49 of these seats remain vacant.
"Currently, there are four main doctors at work at the hospital, two of whom are foreign nationals. Many medical posts and departments are out of health officers and doctors," said Sahi.
Mugu district has a total of 11 health posts and 14 sub-health posts.
