KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Dr Chandra Bhandari is said to undergo two surgeries in Mumbai for his burn injuries today. He was taken to India for treatment yesterday.

According to the sources, Dr Bhandari is admitted to the National Burns Centre in Mumbai. According to the doctors attending to MP Bhandari, efforts were on to double his body fluids.

Dr Bhandari is undergoing his first surgery at 10:30 in the morning and the second surgery will be performed at 1:30 in the afternoon today.

The doctors said all health parameters of Bhandari were normal but they decided to keep him on a ventilator for 48 hours, while putting him on antibiotics.

A cooking gas cylinder explosion at his residence in Shankhamul on Wednesday evening left Dr Chandra Bhandari and his mother severely injured. Both were taken to Kritipur Burn Hospital yesterday where Bhandari’s mother Harikala Bhandari passed away at 10:57AM yesterday while undergoing treatment.

Earlier, the Kritipur hospital had recommended taking both of them to a well-equipped hospital outside the country as further treatment is not possible in Nepal. It is said 25-30 percent of Chandra Bhandari's body and 70 percent of the 86-year-old mother Harikala Bhandari's body received burn injury as a result of the explosion.
