KATHMANDU, May 24: New sub-variants of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, named 'KP.1' and 'KP.2,' have been confirmed in Nepal. The National Public Health Laboratory reported that KP.1 was found in 12 samples and KP.2 in 17 samples.
Krishna Prasad Jaisi, the laboratory's information officer, stated that the World Health Organization is conducting further studies on the KP.2 sub-variant. Jaisi advised caution but not panic, as there is currently no evidence that KP.1 and KP.2 are more infectious or deadly.
