Omicron subspecies 'BF.1' confirmed in two people for the first time in Nepal

KATHMANDU, July 21: 'BF.1', a subspecies of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Nepal.


A new subspecies of the Omicron variant, 'BF.1' was confirmed during testing at the Dhulikhel hospital lab. According to the hospital, while testing 22 samples of confirmed COVID-19 infection, ‘BF.1’ was confirmed in two people.

This subspecies has been declared a 'Variant of Concern' by the World Health Organization. The subspecies, which is considered highly contagious, has not yet been confirmed to be contagious in Nepal.


The World Health Organization confirmed that "BF.1" was also seen in Europe in the month of June.
