BARDIYA, Aug 4: A motorcyclist has been arrested in Bardiya for allegedly murdering his friend after the two were involved in a road accident.
The arrested suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Govinda Jaisi, a permanent resident of Tinadi, Shikhar Municipality-4, Doti, who had been living in Kaligaudi, Thakurbaba Municipality-7, Bardiya.

According to police, the motorcycle (registration number Lu Pra 001-012 Pa 0825) crashed at around 2 a.m. on July 31 while travelling from Thakurdwara to Hattisar in Thakurbaba Municipality-9. Jaisi, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained injuries, while pillion rider Asaram Tharu, 27, of Bethahani village in Thakurbaba Municipality-9, went missing after the accident.
Police intensified their investigation following the incident. On August 2, Tharu’s body was found lying face down in an irrigation canal along the road from Thakurdwara to Kushalpur.
The investigation revealed that instead of rescuing the injured Tharu after the crash, Jaisi allegedly assaulted him with a wooden shuttering plank from a nearby construction site and the motorcycle key.
Police said he then allegedly strangled Tharu using the necklace and cord he was wearing, killed him, dumped the body in the irrigation canal and fled the scene.
Jaisi has been arrested and charged with murder, police said.
