Massive fire destroys noodles factory

BANEPA, July 11: A massive fire broke out Monday morning at a factory of Himalaya Snacks and Noodles Pvt. Ltd. at Ugratara Janagal-1, Kavre, causing huge losses. The fire completely destroyed the factory´s engineering and administrative departments and a warehouse where raw materials were stored.



Himalaya Snacks and Noodles is the manufacturer of Mayos and Ru-chee instant noodles and other snacks.[break]



Gautam Prasad Gautam, chief of administration, said employees came to know about the outbreak much later as they were out for lunch. The fire that broke out at 10:30 am was doused only at 2:30 pm.



The fire was brought under control by a joint effort of the army and police personnel with support from community police and locals.



Two fire engines from Kathmandu and one from Bhaktapur were mobilized for dousing the fire. The sophisticated fire engine of Tribhuvan International Airport was also brought to use later.



Area Police Office said preliminary investigation pointed at short circuit as the cause behind the outbreak. According to some employees, there was a small fire from short circuit a few days ago that was immediately doused.
