KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The Nepal Bureau of Standards Metrology (NBSM) has asked three cement manufacturers—Maruti Cement, United Cement and Jagadamba Cement—to call off their products from the market after their products were found to be of substandard qualities.
Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, Director General of NBSM, said they took action against these cement manufacturing companies after their products failed to comply with the set standards in specimen tests. According to him, NBSM has barred these companies from selling their products manufactured in the prescribed lots and asked them to submit clarifications within 15 days.

The NBSM had cross-checked the quality of cement at their concerned production plants. The market regulator tested Maruti brand cement in OPC 43 grade at its factory in Siraha, United brand cement in OPC 53 grade at its factory in Dhading and Jagadamba PPC cement at its factory in Rupandehi.
“In the lab testing, the compressive strength of the specimens was found to be weaker than the standards set by the law,” Pudasaini said.
