Speaking to media persons following the discussion, President Singh said that the cement manufacturers have committed to provide OPC cement at Rs 700 in the Kathmandu Valley. According to him, PCC cement will now be available in Kathmandu Valley for Rs 600.

According to Singh, they have advised cement manufacturers not to lower market prices in a way that would cause the industry to collapse, nor to raise prices in a manner that would severely impact construction businesses.

President Singh said, “In today’s meeting, there was a discussion between both parties regarding the significant price increase by cement producers. They have committed to providing OPC cement at Rs 700 in Kathmandu, inclusive of transportation cost. The factory price of OPC cement at present is Rs 540 at Birgunj and Bhairahawa corridors and the transportation cost is Rs 140 per bag. This makes the current wholesale price of cement at Rs 680 per bag. They have shown a commitment to move forward through discussions in this manner.”
