KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) on Friday barred Jagadamba Steels and Mangala Cement Udyog from selling certain products of theirs after they did not match the quality standard.
According to the NBSM, the 16 mm TMT bar manufactured by Jagadamba Steels Pvt Ltd, Bara, contained 0.35 percent of carbon against the prescribed standard of 0.30 percent. Similarly, the proportion of sulphur was found to be 0.060 percent, higher than the government standard of 0.055 percent while the product also failed to meet the bend test criteria.

The NBSM seized 300 tons of the Jagadamba products and suspended the license for manufacturing 16mm size of the iron rod.
Similarly, the regulatory body during the market inspection found PPC Ohm Mangala cement of Mangala Cement Udyog defective. According to NBSM officials, the collected specimen of cement had a compressive strength of 14 MPa for three days and 19 MPa for seven days. The NBSM-prescribed standards for the products are 16 MPa and 22 MPa respectively.
According to the NBSM, Mangla Cement has been asked to retrieve all products of the lot sold out in the market and to be present with clarification within 15 days.
