KATHMANDU, May 13: The UCPN (Maoist) on Sunday rubbished the media report that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is currently engaged in homework to extend the tenure of Constituent Assembly (CA).

In a press statement bearing the name of party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma, the Maoist party said it was concerned over the latest news report that PM Bhattarai, also the party´s vice-chairman, was working on prolonging the CA term due to expire on May 27. [break]

“Our party and the Prime Minister are engaged in forging consensus among political parties to issue the new constitution from the CA itself within the given deadline,” the statement read.

Stating that there is no alternative to promulgating the new constitution in the stipulated time, the party has called upon all not to be misled by the news report.

Early today, the PM’s political advisor Devendra Poudel speaking at a program in Reporters Club Nepal in the capital had said the PM was busy in homework to extend the CA’s term.

Arguing that the CA could not be dissolved without promulgating the new constitution, Poudel had said PM Bhattarai was in favor of extending the CA term for the sake of the new constitution.
