Major parties, top leaders to join hands in Clean Bagmati Campaign today

KATHMANDU, April 11: Major political parties have instructed their members to join hands in the "Clean Bagmati Campaign" that marks the hundredth week on Saturday.

The campaign organizers have planned to form human chain along either side of Bagmati River's 18-kilometer stretch all the way from Sundarijal to Chovar to mark the hundredth week.Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has appealed to the party leaders, cadres and the general public for active participation in the river cleanup campaign. "It is not only the Bagmati River but also all other rivers that we have to work to save them from being polluted. Doing so is our duty because rivers are the source of human civilizations," the prime minister said in his statement issued on Friday.

CPN-UML has planned to mobilize the party leaders and cadres at different points along the river bank. A statement issued by the party said that a group of leaders led by party chairman KP Sharma Oli are scheduled to join at Thapathali section.

Other two groups of leaders separately led by former Prime Ministers Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Nepal will join at Balkhu and Shankhamool section respectively.

Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang and officials from the CA Secretariat have planned to arrive at Thapathali section.

Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) and Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist have also instructed their party members to join in the campaign and make it a huge success.

Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has planned to join the campaign at Tinkune section.

Similarly, diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu and various other organizations have announced to actively participate in the campaign.
