The event provides individuals, communities, and organizations a unified platform to clean streets, rivers and public spaces so as to improve their immediate environment through positive action and increased awareness. This year’s nationwide clean-up will focus on litter-free neighborhoods and waste segregation by households, according to the statement.

The annual drive is supported by Australian Embassy. The event started with 15,000 volunteers in 2013 and has since mobilized over 100,000 people to collect 520, 000 kilos of waste at 350 locations in 36 districts throughout Nepal.

Clean Up the World, one of the world’s largest community based environmental campaigns, engages an estimated 35 million volunteers in 130 countries each year.
