KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Mahasangram 2018, a four-day long British parliamentary debate tournament, co-organized by Debate Network Nepal (DNN) and Xavier’s Academy, Lazimpat, concluded on Monday. The event was inaugurated last Friday and saw a participation of 50 teams. Students from different academic levels across the country participated in the debate competition. The topics for debates were based on the global issues.

In the open category, team ‘Trustworthy liars’ consisting of Savishra Kandel and Aasim Ansari won the first position. Similarly, in the novice category, Priyanka Acharya and Britti Paudyal from team ‘Milansaar’ bagged the winning position. Deepshikha Ghimire and Anusha Nepal from team ‘Aayam’ won the tournament in the Nepali category.

The principal motive of the event was to empower the youths and strengthen their quantitative as well as qualitative presence in the debate community.

“Mahasangram 2018 has been the most competitive tournament of the year, both in terms of quality of motions as well as the intensity of the ideas presented,” shared Raj Kharel, the chair of Debate Network Nepal while addressing the participants in the closing ceremony.
