Maha Jodi in Hollywood!

By
POKHARA, Dec 9: Veteran actors, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, have started shooting for an English film. The film ‘Sold’ is their first step towards Hollywood.

The actors are busy shooting for the film in Yangjakot near Pokhara. Directed by Jeffrey Brown, who is known for his work in the short film ‘Molly’s Pilgrim’ for which he also won an Academy Award in 1986, the film’s story revolves around the protagonist’s sorrow of her life in India’s brothel.

Written by Joseph Wong, the film stars actors from Nepal, India and America. Apart from the Nepali actors, the movie also stars Seema Biswas, Parambrata Chatterjee, Nandita Das and Om Puri from India and David Arquette and Gillian Anderson from America.

For both, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, it was the story of the Nepali girl that moved them and interested them in the film.

“We’re starring in the film because it’s based on reality and though we may have a small role, the message is important,” said Hari Bansha. He said that though they have acted in many films with similar subjects, it’s the first time they’re part of an English film. The importance of such films to create social consciousness and change is why they take up roles time and again, he said.

“I’m playing the role of the father who is duped by the middleman,” said Madan Krishna Shrestha, shedding light on his part in the film. He went on to say, “It was fun saying the dialogues in English.”

The film is scheduled to be shot in Nepal and India.
