Maghe Sankranti fair kicks off in Ridi; president arriving

DHURKOT (Gulmi), Jan. 14: The Maghe Sankranti Fair has kicked off in Ridi in Ruru area, a meeting point of Gulmi, Palpa and Syangja districts from this morning on the occasion of the Maghe Sankranti Festival.The site has significance in view of religious, historic and mythical aspects.



The festival will continue until the next three days. It is believed that devotees would get salvation if they pay homage to the Ruru Kanya Rhishikesh after taking holy dips in the Kaligandaki River.



Scores of devotees from Palpa, Syangja, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Parbat, Baglung, Pyuthan and Rupandehi districts and even from India have thronged the site since early this morning to observe the festival.



The site is taken as the Benares of Nepal since there are many temples of Hindu gods and goddesses including Rhishi Keshab, temple of Ruru Kanya, Ramnam Stupa, Mani Mukundeshwor and Maha Bishnu.



Meanwhile, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to arrive in the Ruru area to take a holy bath and perform pooja on the occasion of the Maghe Sankranti.



Special preparations have been made for the festival following the President´s scheduled visit to the Ruru area. The area has been decorated like a bride and security in the area has been tightened keeping in view the President´s visit. A large number of security personnel have been deputed in the area.
