MYAGDI, May 7: Locals have taken the initiatives to remove the waste piling up at Mt. Dhaulagiri base camp at Mudi of Dhaulagiri rural municipality in Myagdi district since many years.

The Dhaulagiri base camp has become polluted due to the trash thrown by tourists in course of trekking to the base camp for climbing the Dhaulagiri mountain or sight-seeing purpose. The Mt. Dhaulagiri is the seventh tallest mountain of the world. It is 8,167 metres from the sea level.

Many visitors also come for trekking in the Round-Dhaulagiri Trekking Route.

Chairperson of Round Dhaulagiri Youth Club, Dil Bahdur Pun, said that initiative was taken to remove the waste as the waste materials discarded by tourists, tourist guides and their helpers, have piled up there.

The act of haphazard throwing of garbage has increased in lack of monitoring by the government bodies. The Dhaulagiri base camp is three days' trek from the settlement.

A team of the Club comprising nine members had monitored the waste piled at Dhaulagiri base camp and remains of crashed helicopter and garbage was found haphazardly thrown around the base camp area, said Club treasurer, Purna Bahadur Purja.

The Club has already sent a letter to the District Coordination Committee and Dhaulagiri rural municipality office to forward necessary process immediately for the management of the waste. RSS
