Body of missing Chinese tourist in Annapurna avalanche found after 13 days

While continuing their efforts, the team discovered the body on Saturday, about 20 meters north of the Madi River bank in Chhomrong of Annapurna Rural Municipality-11.

KATHMANDU, April 5: The body of a Chinese national who had gone missing in the Annapurna region following an avalanche has been found after 13 days. The tourist went missing after an avalanche struck Chhomrong in Annapurna Rural Municipality-11, Kaski, at around 12:30 PM on March 24.


Following the avalanche, 28-year-old Yi Cheng Yuan, who was returning from Annapurna Base Camp toward Ghandruk, went missing. Local residents and a team from the Nepal Police immediately launched a search but were unable to locate him.

On March 29, a special disaster rescue team under the command of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Bishwa Raj Tripathi from Kalika Battalion was deployed to the area for further search operations.


While continuing their efforts, the team discovered the body on Saturday, about 20 meters north of the Madi River bank in Chhomrong of Annapurna Rural Municipality-11. According to police, the body was found in a collapsed position with a bag and was retrieved from the site at 11:20 AM.
