Nepal Army-led mountain cleaning team finds 15-year-old helicopter wreckage, human remains

KATHMANDU, April 30: The Mountain Cleaning Campaign-2021 team led by the Nepal Army has found two human remains with mountaineering gears 200 meters South of Dhaulagiri Base Camp and a helicopter wreckage numbered 9N-ACR approximately one kilometer from the same base camp toward the Italian Base Camp on April 29, 2021.

KATHMANDU, April 30: The Mountain Cleaning Campaign-2021 team led by the Nepal Army has found two human remains with mountaineering gears 200 meters South of Dhaulagiri Base Camp and a helicopter wreckage numbered 9N-ACR approximately one kilometer from the same base camp toward the Italian Base Camp on April 29, 2021.

Further investigation to identify the human remains is underway. According to the preliminary information, the helicopter wreckage belongs to the Air Dynasty chopper which met with a crash in 2006. In addition, necessary coordination has been initiated with the agencies concerned regarding the management of the said remains.


The teams deployed in the campaign with the noble objective of cleaning the six mountains including Mount Everest are collecting waste materials in close cooperation and collaboration with the local government, organizations and the locals. The Mountain Cleaning Campaign which started on April 25, 2021 has so far collected a total of 5,154 Kg of waste, which includes 355 Kg of biodegradable and 4,799 Kg of non-biodegradable waste.
