KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The last rites of former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday afternoon. Dhungana, who died on Sunday, was cremated today with state honors.
Dhungana’s sons Nimesh and Nishesh offer fire to his pyre for the cremation. During this, the team of Nepali Army saluted and played a mournful tune.

Former speaker Dhungana passed away at 1:30 pm on Sunday, at the age of 83 years, while undergoing treatment at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar. His mortal remains were kept at Sanogaucharan for last rites. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli paid homage by draping his mortal remains with the national flag.
Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party Upendra Yadav and others attended the funeral to pay homage to the former speaker.
A meeting of the council of ministers held this morning announced today as a public holiday across the country in mourning of former Speaker Dhungana.
