“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of my friend Daman Nath Dhungana, the first Speaker of the House of Representatives elected after the restoration of democracy in 2046 BS,” PM Oli wrote in his social media post, “I remember his contribution to the movement for the protection of human rights and the promotion of parliamentary practice in Nepal.”
Former speaker Dhungana passed away at 1:30 pm on Sunday, at the age of 83 years, while undergoing treatment at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar. Dhungana, who is also a senior advocate, was undergoing treatment for some time due to liver related problems.
