KATHMANDU, July 13: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on Burger House and Crunchy Fried Chicken in Kalanki.

Action was taken on Friday under the 'Market Management and Monitoring Act' after it was confirmed that unhealthy, foul-smelling sauce was sent to a customer who ordered momo online.

On the evening of July 10, a customer noticed a foul smell in the sauce that was sent with the momo from Burger House in an online order. The customer then informed Burger House about this issue.

Anil Basnet, a food technician from the KMC, explained the incident, saying, "After receiving the complaint, Burger House sent the sauce again. When the sauce sent this time also had a foul smell, the consumer filed a complaint with the city police. Upon investigation of the complaint, it was confirmed that the food was not hygienic, leading to the action being taken."

Burger House operator Bikram Giri, who was called to the office for investigation of the complaint, admitted that the sauce for the momo had a foul smell. He said, "The pickle, which should have been refrigerated immediately after preparation, was mistakenly left out, causing the smell. It was due to the negligence of the staff. We have already taken action against the employees responsible for the lack of hygiene in the food."

He has pledged to provide service without any complaints about quality from now on.

The KMC had also fined Narayani Canteen, operating within its own office building, with Rs 200,000.

Inspection Officer and Head of the Agriculture and Livestock Department, Noornidhi Neupane, said, "After receiving complaints from consumers regarding the cleanliness of the food and snacks sold by the canteen, food technicians conducted an inspection and issued written instructions. Since these instructions were not followed, action was taken."
