KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail. Prasai was arrested recently on charges of cybercrime.
The information officer at the court, Melish Baskota, told Republica that a single bench of Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel has set a bail at Rs 50,000 for each of the two cybercrime-related offenses.

Police arrested Prasai on September 22 based on a complaint by Rastriya Swatantra Party Central Committee member Tika Sangraula and other women, accusing him of character assassination. He was arrested for allegedly violating the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008.
Following his arrest, Prasai’s son, Niraj Prasai, lodged a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court on September 23.
However, on September 24, a single bench of Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut conducted a preliminary hearing on the petition and issued a 15-day show-cause order against the defendants. As a result he was not able to get bail.
