KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Vehicular movement along Kanti Highway has resumed fully beginning today.
A temporary road has been constructed at the Bagmati Bridge in Baguwa, connecting Makwanpur and Lalitpur. Along with this, half a dozen routes connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu are now fully operational.
The recent flood had swept away half of the Bagmati Bridge. The road towards Lalitpur was already open; however Kanti Highway was blocked as the bridge over the Bagmati River was swept away.
Kanti Highway comes into full operation from today
With the assistance of the Nepali Army, a temporary road has been constructed by installing four hump pipes in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality of Makwanpur and Baguwa, Bagmati Rural Municipality of Lalitpur.
Hidam Lama, president of Bhimphedi Municipality, said that light vehicles began operating from Tuesday morning. According to local resident Prakash Lama from Bagmati Municipality, only light vehicles are currently allowed to operate as the road is narrow.
The transport link between Makwanpur and Lalitpur was disrupted for the last 10 days after the Bagmati Bridge was washed away by the flood. The Kanti Highway is a vital route connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, three alternative routes including Hetauda-Kulekhani-Sisneri-Dakshinkali-Kathmandu, Kulekhani-Fakhel-Humanevnjang-Pharping-Kathmandu and Kulekhani-Mahalakshmi Khola-Chokhe-Matatirtha-Kathmandu also came into operation from Sunday evening.
Furthermore, Kulekhani-Markhu-Chitlang-Chandragiri-Thankot road was opened from Wednesday. Tribhuvan Highway, the old road connecting Hetauda to Kathmandu via Dhading Naubise, has already come into operation.
