Avalanche on Mount Annapurna leaves two Sherpas missing, rescue efforts underway

The Department of Tourism said it has issued climbing permits for Annapurna this spring to four groups, including 30 men and 12 women.

KATHMANDU, April 7: An avalanche in Mt Annapurna on Monday morning has left two people missing. 


Ningma Sherpa, the operator of Seven Summit Trekking Agency, said the avalanche buried Rima Sherpa and Nima Tashi Sherpa from Solukhumbu. He added that the duo have been missing since Monday morning.

According to Sherpa, the avalanche occurred between Camp 2 and Camp 3 of Mt Annapurna in Myagdi. He said other Sherpas at the base camp have joined the search effort, and authorities have sent a rescue team from Kathmandu by a helicopter.
