KATHAMDNU, April 7: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that neighboring India is not in favor of restoring monarchy in Nepal.
Deuba made this remark while speaking at a seminar on “Contributions of Former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar in Strengthening Nepal-India Relations” organized by the Ganesh Man Singh Foundation in Kathmandu on Monday.
He clarified that the rumor suggesting India has raised the issue of reinstating the monarchy in Nepal is false.

“There is a rumor now that India has raised the issue of restoring the monarchy,” Deuba said, “Even a photo of Yogi Adityanath was published here. He himself has said that he is not in favor of bringing back the monarchy.”
Deuba also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had clarified at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi that he was not in favor of restoring the monarchy. Deuba further emphasized that former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar played a significant role in the establishment of democracy in Nepal.
“He made a significant contribution to the establishment of democracy in Nepal," Deuba said, “At that time, India was not in favor of democracy in Nepal. However, after Chandra Shekhar came to power, it was clear that India was not against democracy. Following that, we carried out a major movement and even brought about the establishment of a republic.”
Deuba further stated that despite the establishment of a federal republic in Nepal for many years, it is essential for political parties to unite and strengthen it.
