Well, for the audience in Nepal, the prayers have been answered. For ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ is releasing on Friday, November 27.
Film director Ram Babu Gurung says, “The audiences’ overwhelming response to ‘Kabaddi’ motivated us to come up with its sequel. But since their expectations are so high, our main challenge has been to not let them down.”
Actor Saugat Malla, who’s the new addition to the cast, is confident that the audience won’t be disappointed. “‘Kabaddi’ was a great movie.
But when I read the script to its sequel, I instantly felt that it was better than the previous one. The characters have a more defined role and the story is more engaging. I feel ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ has turned out to be better in all aspects, because it holds the perfect combination of a good script and an amazing teamwork.”
The sequel persists with the quest of Kaji and his friends to win Maiya’s love. Shot in Mustang and its surrounding villages, ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ also has an element of politics, a much relatable phenomenon in recent times. Actor Dayahang Rai shares, “The story is an ordinary one which we believe the audiences will easily relate to. It also touches on how politics affects family and relationships. So, without revealing much I’d say it’s different from the previous one yet similar in some ways.”
Actor Rishma Gurung hints, “I guess this movie will reveal who ‘Maiya’ will finally end up with.” She adds that the movie, with a typical Nepali setting peppered with elements of politics, is relevant with the status quo of Nepal.
With the current fuel crisis, the team once considered postponing the release date. “But the question of ‘when’ hit us. After some scrutiny, we concluded that since we are all adapting to the crisis in our own ways, audiences will find their way to the theaters,” says director Gurung, adding that ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ won’t let anyone down.
