KATHMANDU, Nov 13: After returning to the CPN-UML, leader Ram Kumari Jhakri said she feels extremely happy and has a sense of having come back home.

She remarked that the nearly four years she spent in the CPN (Unified Socialist) were wasted and politically unproductive.

Speaking during Nagarik Frontline, a digital talk show organized by Nagarik News on Wednesday, Jhakri openly shared her political experiences—from the party split to her return to the UML.

“I am very happy. It feels like I’ve finally come home,” she said, adding, “I realized I had really missed the UML organization, my comrades, and the overall environment here.”

When asked about her experience in the Unified Socialist, she said, “Those four years were completely wasted. Politically, it feels as if I threw that period away.”

Except for her eight-month ministerial tenure, she admitted that the rest of her time in the party involved no political engagement and was spent in personal frustration.

Reflecting on her once aggressive “firebrand” image, Jhakri said age and experience have brought her maturity.

“Looking back now, I realize one needs to exercise some restraint in expression. I’m over 40 now,” she said. “In a democracy, self-censorship is stronger than any censorship imposed by the state.”

Jhakri also expressed dissatisfaction with the Unified Socialist’s internal structure and working style, calling its party statute regressive and accusing the leadership—dominated by leaders over 65—of sidelining the younger generation.

She clarified that she holds no grudge or hatred toward those who remained in the Unified Socialist or joined other communist factions, but she also no longer feels any attachment to them.

Jhakri added that even while she was in another party, she continued to regard KP Sharma Oli as her leader.
