KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Ram Kumari Jhakṛi, a leader of the Unified Socialist Party, has announced the conclusion of her political journey with the party. Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, she said the party will be formally dissolved at 1 PM, marking the end of her chapter with it.

“My journey and chapter with the Unified Socialist have ended. We are now at a new turning point,” Jhakṛi said. She emphasized that amid the Gen-Z movement and the rise of democratic consciousness in Nepal, political parties must take responsibility for safeguarding democracy, peace, and security.

She also criticized the Nepal Communist Party, formed by the merger of UML and the Maoist Centre, for weakening internal democratic practices. Jhakṛi expressed concern that the upcoming unification of nine parties, including the Maoist Centre and the Unified Socialist, could further undermine democratic foundations.

The merger of the nine parties is set to take place on Wednesday, with the new party expected to be named the “Nepali Communist Party.” Leaders who are not joining the unification, including Jhakṛi, are reportedly preparing to join the UML.
