LAHAN, Dec 26: Members of the Janamat party led by CK Raut vandalized over a dozen vehicles in Siraha on Sunday while protesting against the arrest of a person allegedly involved in stealing wheat seeds stored by Aourahi Rural Municipality. The accused was arrested by police in Siraha.
The protestors have been smashing and vandalizing privately owned vehicles since this morning on the East-West Highway. They have also burned tires at the Lahan road section of the highway. Meanwhile, a tussle broke out between security personnel and protestors at Mirchaiya. Police were forced to fire tear gas canisters at the protestors to disperse the crowd.
According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Lal Babu Kawari, security around the district has been heightened to control the ongoing protest. “Security personnel have been dispatched to various checkpoints of the highway. They have been directed to arrest anyone trying to vandalize vehicles and obstruct traffic on the highway,” CDO Kawari informed Republica.
Members of the Janamat Party have also forced the public and private schools of Siraha to close for today.
