Janamat Party to evaluate performance of people's representatives through voting

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: The Janamat Party has started collecting public opinion to evaluate the approval ratings of its local representatives. For this purpose, the party has requested the members whose names are in the voter list published by the party at the local level to vote with the party card.

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: The Janamat Party has started collecting public opinion to evaluate the approval ratings of its local representatives. For this purpose, the party has requested the members whose names are in the voter list published by the party at the local level to vote with the party card.


This effort of the Janamat Party has been taken as an internal practice of "Right to Recall". Dr Sharad Singh Yadav, the party's central spokesperson, said that this process has been adopted to evaluate issues like the conduct of party’s members, works accomplished and to know if the public is satisfied with their performance. The opinion poll is also aimed at assessing other aspects such as behavior after their election to the local level bodies.

Spokesperson Yadav claimed that the Janamat Party is the first party to practice this in Nepal. There is a rule that all the active members who have joined the party till May 13, 2023 can vote. 


Yadav said that the voting process, including the ballot paper, for becoming representatives in local bodies and provincial levels, will be in line with the rules set by the Election Commission (EC). 


A total of 97 people's representatives were elected on behalf of Janamat Party, including two municipality chairpersons, one vice chairman and 19 ward chairpersons in the local level election held last year.
