KATHMANDU, April 15: The Janamat Party, which left the government after not getting the water supply ministry, is preparing to leave the ruling coalition. The Janamat Party leader believes that Nepali Congress, Maoist Center, CPN (Unified Socialist Party) and other parties in the alliance have betrayed them.

In the by-elections to be held on April 13, the parties in the ruling coalition have formally decided to support the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) candidate Upendra Yadav, so the Janamat candidate will not get support from the coalition.

From this, two candidates from the ruling coalition are in Bara 2. The ruling coalition has issued a notice to vote Yadav. Therefore, Janamat Party’s Chairman CK Raut seems angry with the alliance.

The leaders of the party have concluded that they were cheated by the alliance in the vice presidential election held in March as well. In the election of the Vice-President, the parties in the alliance supported the JSP candidate, while the candidate of Janamat did not get support for by-election from the parties in the alliance.

General Secretary of Janamat Chandan Singh indicated that Janamat Party will leave the ruling coalition after the by-elections as the alliance is being uncooperative lately. "We will take a formal decision on whether to remain in the alliance or not after April 23," said Singh. "We are not happy with the behavior of the parties in the alliance."

Another leader of the Janamat Party said, "It is almost certain that we will not be in the alliance seeing the current situation. If the Nepali Congress, the Maoist Center is flexible and ready to give us the ministry that we are asking for, that would be a different matter," said the leader.

However, General Secretary Singh made it clear that the party will not return to the Ministry of Water Supply. “We have left the Ministry of Water Supply. Why would we return back?” he said.

Janamat has been demanding the Ministry of Industry, but the parties in the alliance are not ready to give it. Therefore, Minister of Water Supply and Janamat Party leader Abdul Khan resigned from the ministerial post.

"There was an agreement to give us the Ministry of Industry, but we were betrayed at the last moment," said another Janamat Party leader. According to that leader, JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav was involved for the party to not get industry ministry. At present, there are 10 parties in the ruling coalition. If the Janamat leaves the coalition, the government will have the support of nine parties.

On the other hand, the clash between Yadav and Janmat Party's Shiva Chandra Kushwaha is increasing in the by-election. As the elections are approaching, the JSP and JanAmat Party cadres are now engaged in verbal abuse against each other's candidates. Chairman Raut has been confident to defeat JSP’s Yadav in Bara-2. He has criticized Yadav in public events.

Yadav is supported by the ruling coalition Congress, Maoist center and CPN Unified Socialist). However, Raut ignoring the coalition, has nominated his candidate against Yadav.

In the battle between Yadav and Raut, another party centered on Terai Madhesh, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) has been openly supporting Yadav. Rajendra Mahato, who was preparing to run for Bara 2 from LSP, withdrew his candidature at the last moment and announced that he would support Yadav.

LSPA has made Jitendra Sonar, a member of the party executive committee, a commander for supporting Yadav on Friday. As he is from Bara, there is his influence there. While about a month ago, Janamat and LSP had agreed to work together. Less than a month after the agreement, the working unity between the two parties has been broken.

JSP spokesperson Manish Suman said that Janamat chairman Raut is trying to clash with JSP Chairman Yadav and said, “Why is he doing this? We do not understand. Maybe it can be for discussion.”

Stating that there is no doubt that Yadav will win in Bara 2, he said, "Parties in the coalition are supporting us, but  Janamat leaders have nominated candidate against us."

He claimed that there is no strong candidate from Janamat to win the election. On the other hand, the general secretary of Janamat, Chandan Singh, promised that the people of Bara-2 would defeat Upendra Yadav and make Janamat Party candidate Kushwaha win. “We are sure to win in Bara-2. We are close to victory," he said.
