According to his family source, he has been suffering from asthma and high blood pressure problems and that he was also suffering from paralysis on his right hip.
Thapa had started his musical career with the popular song ´Dhuru dhuru naroye ama, timro ansu puchhera chhodaunla,´ and gave dozens of popular Nepali songs including ´Ho ho male ho ho, ho ho tare ho ho,´ and ´Hamro Tenzing Norgay le chadhe himal chuchura,´ and ´Chhuku chhuku aipugyo rela, barha baje nautanwa bazaara,´ among others.
Janakavi Keshari Thapa, who had been undergoing treatment in Bir Hospital, was taken to his own ancestral residence at Batulechaur, Pokhara, on his own request.
