KATHMANDU, Sept 27: Inspector Madan Shrestha, stationed at the District Police Office in Kaski, has been suspended from his duties pending an investigation.
The suspension comes in the wake of a troubling incident that unfolded following the unfortunate demise of a woman from Lamjung who was undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital. Inspector Shrestha, who was assigned to provide security, was himself involved in assaulting a doctor.
A video which captured the incident involving Inspector Shrestha has been widely circulating on social media, showing him using force against the doctor.
Kuber Kadayat, the Spokesperson for the Nepal Police, confirmed that Inspector Shrestha has been suspended from duty, pending further investigation into the matter. Additionally, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prakash Joshi, who was responsible for security during this incident, has been reassigned a new duty.
This suspension underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating allegations of misconduct and violence, particularly when it involves law enforcement officers. An in-depth investigation will be conducted to determine the facts and appropriate actions will be taken in response to this incident, added Kadayat.
