KATHMANDU, Oct 7: The newly appointed Chief Justice (CJ) of the Supreme Court Prakash Man Singh Raut has pledged to maintain the credibility and trustworthiness of the judiciary.
After taking office at the Supreme Court following an oath-taking ceremony at the President’s Office on Sunday, Raut emphasized his commitment to reducing the backlog of cases and enhancing the reputation of the judiciary.
“Our judiciary has regained its rhythm, which is a matter of pride,” he said, “The court is transparent, and I will strive to uphold the sanctity of justice.” He added that judicial reforms are a necessity, with no alternative.

“I will be committed to further enhancing the judiciary’s reputation and credibility,” he said.
As the 32nd Chief Justice of Nepal, Raut will lead the judiciary for 18 months. He is scheduled to retire on April 1, 2026, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
Chief Justice Raut, born on March 31, 1961 in Udayapur, was appointed a permanent judge of the Supreme Court on August 1, 2016.
Chief Justice Raut who practiced law for 33 years has earned a law degree from Nepal Law Campus. While practicing law he also served as the president of the Nepal Bar Association.
