KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The long-awaited hearing on the case filed by Hitendradev Shakya at the Supreme Court (SC) against Kulman Ghising’s appointment as the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), three years ago, was postponed on Wednesday again.
Shakya had filed a petition at the SC demanding the cancellation of the appointment of Kulman Ghising. The petition was scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday. However, this hearing has been postponed again.
Hearing on writ petition against NEA MD Ghising deferred again
Shakya also gave a public statement claiming that he had not received justice for the past three years. Since March 15, 2022, the hearing scheduled on various dates have been postponed.
According to sources, various vested interest groups were active “to make the court decide the case” on Wednesday itself. Lately, Ghising’s adversaries have been targeting him by dragging him into the dedicated and trunk line electricity tariff dispute. Ghising was targeted especially after he recently disconnected the electricity supply of certain industries which had not cleared their dues for receiving electricity through dedicated and trunk lines during the time of load-shedding. He was under political pressure to resume power supply to those industries.
Ghising was targeted after advancing the process of collecting Rs 7.5 billion in arrears. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had called the industrialists whose lines were disconnected and instructed Kulman to immediately supply power lines to those industries. According to high sources, Prime Minister Oli had also suggested Chief Justice Bishwambhar Shrestha to expedite the judgment.
