Lamichhane is currently in custody for further investigation in connection with a fraud and organized crime case involving Supreme Cooperative in Butwal. He had previously approached the SC with a separate application, following which a bench led by Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana had ordered a clarification report from the authorities.

Before the scheduled hearing on that earlier order took place, the habeas corpus petition was filed. While the hearing on the petition has concluded, no decision has been issued yet.
