KATHMANDU, April 29: The Government of Nepal has called on investors to inject their capital in Nepal’s information technology (IT) sector stating that it plans to develop the country as an IT hub.

Speaking at a session of the Nepal Investment Summit-2024 on Monday, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said the country urges not only domestic but also the foreign investors to invest in the segment.

“As the government has launched a campaign to achieve economic prosperity through digital transformation, it could offer investors with lucrative returns on their investment,” said Sharma.

Every year, Nepal is producing more than 10,000 skilled manpower, who are related to the IT sector. The government has endorsed the National Cyber Security Policy 2024 and established the National Cyber Security Center for the first time. “These are targeted to ensure safe ‘cyber space’ in the country,” Sharma added.

According to Sharma, Nepal is suitable to operate data centers, while the government is also committed to implement necessary laws and guidelines to facilitate data centers by the private sector. She informed that the government has initiated a study to investigate how Nepal can receive maximum benefits from the platforms like AI, cloud commuting, IOT and block chain, which are widely in use in the global market.
