Govt shuts Nepalgunj-based Dreamland Hotel over royalty issue

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has decided to close down the Nepalgunj-based Dreamland Hotel for defaulting royalty over Rs 3.8 million for the operation of a casino business.

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has decided to close down the Nepalgunj-based Dreamland Hotel for defaulting royalty over Rs 3.8 million for the operation of a casino business.


The hotel owes Rs 381 million in royalty to the government. Though it was asked time and again in writing to clear the dues, the hotel failed to abide by the directions, prompting the government to take action against it. It was shut at the direction of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale.

Happy Hour on September 5, 2010 took permission for running a mini casino at the hotel.  According to Minister Ale, the casino license has also been rescinded. It is said the Nepal Police Headquarters has been asked in writing to close the Hotel.
