KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The government is carrying out a minute assessment of the big development projects, aiming to take prompt action to solve any problem that could crop up in such projects.
According to an official at the National Planning Commission (NPC), the commission in this regard has prepared a work procedure in consultation with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministries (OPMCM) and the Ministry of Finance. According to the guideline, the projects with investment of over Rs 1 billion will fall under the category.

The guideline has envisioned forming a task force led by an NPC member, while secretary of the MoF, secretary of the OPMCM, secretary of the line ministry and joint-secretary of the NPC will be members of the task force. The team will be conducting onsite inspection of the big projects.
The government initiative has been forwarded in the line of the announcement made in the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24, which talks about implementing a result-oriented monitoring system of big development projects.
Currently, a total of 90 development projects are under construction with an investment of more than Rs 1 billion. Of them, projects related to transmission lines, road expansion, fast track and irrigation, in particular, are moving at a slow pace.
