KATHMANDU, April 18: The government is preparing to release Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Dhawal Shamsher JB Rana, who is currently in custody, enabling him to receive medical treatment.
According to sources, arrangements are being made to release him for medical treatment.
He was arrested on March 28 in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area during the deadly pro-monarchy protest. He was detained under charges of committing offenses against the state.

The decision to let Rana go for treatment comes after criticism from the Joint People's Movement Mobilization Committee (JPMC), a group that supports bringing back the monarchy. Rana is one of their leaders. The committee had earlier accused the government of stopping him from going to Mumbai for a follow-up medical checkup.
Earlier, the JPMC had accused the government of preventing Rana from seeking medical treatment.
In a statement on Friday, JPMC spokesperson Swagat Nepal said the government was trying to block his scheduled trip for treatment. The committee said Rana’s health is in serious condition and urged both national and international human rights groups to speak up for his right to continue treatment with his regular doctors in Mumbai.
Along with Rana, senior RPP leader Rabindra Mishra was also arrested during the same protest. Mishra, however, remains in custody. Likewise, the investigation into the March 28 protest is still ongoing.
