KATHMANDU, June 13: The Kathmandu District Court is preparing to issue arrest warrants against Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Vice-Chairperson Rabindra Mishra and Member of Parliament Dhawal Shamsher Rana after they failed to appear in court to record their statements.

Rana, who had secured release on bail for medical treatment, and Mishra, who had been freed through a habeas corpus order, did not attend the hearing even after the District Government Attorney’s Office filed a case against them. As a result, the court is moving forward with issuing arrest warrants.

On Thursday night, the court remanded Durga Prasai and six others to judicial custody for their alleged involvement in a violent pro-monarchy protest held in Tinkune on March 28. Following this, the court decided to issue arrest warrants for Mishra and Rana, according to a court source.

The court considers Mishra and Rana absconding. Since both have remained out of contact, the investigating officer imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on three lawyers and Mishra’s personal secretary, who had posted bail on their behalf. Despite paying the fines, Mishra and Rana have not appeared before the court.
