KATHMANDU, June 26:  The Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FWEAN) organized one-day conclave in Nuwakot on Thursday to understand the challenges and opportunities of women entrepreneurs in the district.

Around 200 local women entrepreneurs attended the program organized in partnership with the Nuwakot Women Entrepreneurs Association and the Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu.

Addressing the program attended by 200 women entrepreneurs from Nuwakot and Rasuwa, Chief District Officer of Nuwakot, Pakistan’s ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H Hashmi, addressing a gathering organized by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs of Nepal (FWEAN), said that fruits can be cultivated commercially in the hill areas of Nepal that are left unused. He said that commercial farming of local fruits is being done in the hilly regions of Pakistan. 

“Nepal also has potential to utilize the hill landscape for fruit cultivation. We are ready to support fruit production and marketing,” he said. 

Also addressing the program, Ram Krishna Adhikari, expressed his commitment to formulate a program to encourage women entrepreneurs in the upcoming days by coordinating with the local bodies.  

Roshna Pokharel, head of the Division Forest Office, Nuwakot said that she and the forest office will provide support to women entrepreneurs to make them independent.

Addressing the gathering, FWEAN President Shova Gyawali said that it is exciting to see the government serious about women entrepreneurs.

Stating that the production and marketing will be difficult without the support of local levels, Gyawali said that women entrepreneurs can become independent by expanding the market across all seven provinces.  Gyawali noted that Nuwakot and Rasuwa have high potential in the tourism sector and added that productive work in fertile land of these districts could contribute to the overall prosperity of the nation.

During the occasion, the FWEAN also organized a one-day workshop for the women entrepreneurs of Nuwakot and Rasuwa. The issues of production of local levels, possibility, challenges and opportunities were discussed in the workshop.

Ramesh Shrestha, president of Industry Commerce Association, Kabindra Man Pradhan, President of Nuwakot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Brinda Shrestha, head of Cottage and Small Scale Industry Committee among others were present in the gathering.

Establishment of 67th branch of FWEAN in Rasuwa

The FWEAN has established its branch in Rasuwa. The FWEAN opened its 67th branch with the help of the Pakistani ambassador. Gyawali said that the branches have been opened in 67 districts throughout the country in 20 years of its establishment. The FWEAN said it expanded its branches in eight districts within eight months.

The FWEAN has been ensuring the rights of women entrepreneurs for 20 years and has been organizing programs aimed at strengthening women entrepreneurs socially and economically via entrepreneurship.
