Govt issued licenses to 56 hydropower companies with combined capacity of around 1,600 MW last FY

KATHMANDU, July 20: The government issued new licenses, including permits for survey and construction, to 56 hydropower companies that have planned to produce 1,587 MW of electricity in total, in the fiscal year 2021/22.

KATHMANDU, July 20: The government issued new licenses, including permits for survey and construction, to 56 hydropower companies that have planned to produce 1,587 MW of electricity in total, in the fiscal year 2021/22.


According to the Department of Electricity Development, it issued construction permits to 23 hydroelectricity projects with capacity totaling 474.855 MW of electricity. Of them, Himchuli Dordi Hydroelectricity Project was the largest with a proposed production capacity of 57 MW. Similarly, Himalayan Engineering and Energy Pvt Ltd has planned to produce 2 MW of electricity, the smallest of all.

Similarly, the regulatory body issued survey licenses to 33 companies. They have proposed to produce more than 1,112 MW of electricity.


Of the companies approved for the survey licenses, Arun-4 Semi Reservoir Hydroelectricity Project has sought to produce 490.20 MW in Sankhuwasabha while Clean Energy Pvt Ltd has planned to construct 1.520 MW Rudi Khola Hydropower Project in Lamjung district.
