Govt forms a five-member probe commission to investigate Saurya Airlines plane crash

KATHMANDU, July 24:The government has formed a five member commission to investigate the causes behind the accident of Saurya Airlines Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft that took place on Wednesday morning.

An emergency Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday formed the investigation commission led by Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, former director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to find out the truth about the accident. 

Captain Dipu Jwarchan, Professor duo of Pulchok Engineering Campus Kuldip Bhattarai and Sanjay Adhikari and Air Traffic Control Officer at the CAAN Mukesh Dangol are among the members of the probe panel. The commission has been given a deadline of 45 days to submit its report. 

The aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashed while attempting to take off from the Tribhuvan International Airport at around 11 AM on Wednesday. In the incident, a total of 18 people were killed while Captain Manish Shakya was rescued alive. 

According to Prithvi Subba Gurung, spokesperson for the government, the domestic airlines companies will be made responsible to carry out regular testing of aircraft that they operate. “The CAAN in this regard will be made liable to carry out intensive monitoring of the domestic airlines companies,” said Gurung.   

The Cabinet meeting also decided to put the national flag on half mast on Thursday.
