Govt collects Rs 559 billion in revenue in first six months of current FY, marking 13% rise

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The government has collected a total revenue of Rs 559 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, marking an increase of Rs 63 billion than in the last fiscal year. On a percentage basis, this marks an increase of 13 percent in revenue collection.


As of the end of Poush (mid-January) in the last fiscal year, Rs 496 billion was collected in revenue. The target for revenue collection in the current fiscal year is Rs 1.419 trillion. By the end of Poush in the current fiscal year, a total revenue collection of Rs 567 billion has been achieved including various receipts, which constitutes 40 percent of the total annual target.

The target was to collect Rs 672 billion in revenue in the first six months of the current fiscal year. The revenue collected in the first six months of the current fiscal year is 84 percent of the target. In the month of Poush alone, revenue collection amounted to Rs 160 billion.


Mentioning that the increase in revenue collection is positive compared to the past, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel emphasized focusing on revenue collection as per the target.


The spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, Mahesh Bhattarai, stated that despite the impacts of the floods and landslides in mid-September last year, a decrease in petroleum imports, the affected import of petroleum-powered vehicles, an increase in the import of electric vehicles, the impact on the telecommunications sector, and a reduction in imports and demand, there has been significant revenue collection in the first six months of the current fiscal year.
